A lot of people ask me how I manage to have high energy throughout the day. My response to them is always, “That’s not true, it’s true to say that most parts of the day I have the right amount of energy.”

There are times I feel a drop in energy – usually around 4.30pm to 6.00pm. During that time, I normally exercise, drink water, and chill out.

If the drop in energy is severe, I examine my diet and hours of sleep the night before. If the sleep hours were regular and the diet was the same, then maybe I’m getting flu. That’s my cue to take my pycnogenol, echinacea, and more alkaline water.

Then I take a bath, stretch, and chill out (about 30 mins) and resume my work. If it still hasn’t improved, I take a 35-min nap (this happens only once or twice a year).

My advice is – if your energy is not what you want it to be, change your diet.

Do not mix meat protein with rice or noodles. Strictly no meat nor rice in the morning; stick to fruit and if necessary a multi-grain bread with organic jam or kaya. What would be best is some sesame spread (Tahini), extremely high in calcium.

And in order for the calcium to be absorbed and balanced in our body, we need to take 10mg of magnesium. Do your own research on what I said. (My favourite breakfast: avocado, banana and vegetable dumpling.)

you are what you eat energy management

Avoid milk and its byproducts like they were some deadly diseases.

Over 65% of humans are allergic to the lactose in milk, a protein that our body cannot break down. So the body takes it as something “foreign” or an “irritant” which causes inflammation in the body. The inflammation causes joint and sinus problems, eczema, irritable bowel, phlegmy chest and nose etc.

Most people have some form of inflammation, but they do not link that to milk consumption. You can take an expensive allergy test, or stop milk for 2 weeks, and see if your overall health improves.

The other important factor for health and general energy management is water – i.e. alkaline water.

If you check the PH level of sick people, people taking heavy medication, cancer sufferers, people under stress – their blood PH is acidic. For a heavy meat eater (btw milk = liquid protein), their blood PH is acidic.

If we take meat, our body needs acid to digest it. So, taking alkaline water (from a KYK alkaline water machine) helps clean your system, keep your PH more on the alkaline side. This alkaline water machine usually also oxygenates your water, so you get more oxygen in your system.

Since we are talking about water, cut out soft-drinks (Coke, Sprite, Fanta etc), a “Gold Standard” research has been carried out by NUS, and it flatly states that 1-2 liters of these “sugared drinks” would guarantee you diabetes in 2 years – especially when you are approaching your 40s.

a) We need to let our body “chill out” every 2-3 hours, do some slow stretching and breathing during our downtime, so that we can sustain our up time. Pressing on during downtime is the fastest way to shorten our up time;

b) Check your diet: separate meat protein from carbohydrates; stop milk; increase your vegetables by 50%;

c) Drink water every 2 hours; get an alkaline water machine;

d) Do some stretching and breathing exercises – 5 mins every hour;

e) Know the right amount of sleeping hours you need and maintain it.

My advice: get educated.

Most of our knowledge about eating, resting, and about our health are outdated, as it’s simply passed down by our parents who were not educated in nutrition science. They themselves ate what their parents or society fed them. But we, you and me, are educated. We need to know the facts, and then discipline ourselves to break away from our “outdated eating/drinking habits.”

I challenge you to prove me wrong.

That if you follow what I suggest above, and that you do not have “more energy” throughout the day, I will let you kick my butt. Now, I just want to restate, that there will be parts of the day you feel “low energy” use that time to do some simple stretches and breathing exercises. You need to use the low energy time to slow down (body relaxes and repairs itself) so that the high energy will be available to you later and longer.

For those who want to be “educated” and do the smart thing, I have 4 articles for you:

Nutrition Science Research Articles

Write an email to Hans. He always responds within 36 hours.

Article 1:

A scientific research that talks about the mutation of our human gene to adapt to milk lactose, this occurred several thousand years back to a specific ethnicity – people in Denmark, Switzerland, Norway. They were the first to domesticate cows and drink their milk, and after several hundred years their gene mutated to be able to process lactose. But the rest of the world, almost 70% of the people in the world do not have this mutation.

Article 2:

A scientific research that talks about the study of the human genome – how do we differentiate the human ethnicity by DNA. One group stood out, the northern Europeans, because their gene has a mutation to assimilate milk’s lactose.

Article 3:

A scientific research by NUS, yes Singaporeans, that says that if you have 1-2 litres of carbonated, sugared drinks (coke, sprite, etc.) per week, you would be the likeliest candidate for diabetes in just 2 years, especially when you cross your 40s.

Article 4:

My compilation of articles into a booklet about milk, alkaline water, red bull and preservative MSG.

When people learn about State Management in NLP, they become very motivated because now they can summon their peak performance states easily and perform with more ease and less anxiety. But there is one more ingredient in peak performance that many people are not aware of—diet. Imagine the after lunch phenomenon where people get sleepy; I can safely say that NLP would not do them a lot of good if their body is working against their mind.

In our training, we teach NLP and Diet. We always tell our NLP Practitioners to eat responsibly, so that they don’t have to fight with their bodies to stay awake in class. This way, learning is more sustainable. Peak performance is more sustainable.
